Breakfast 

The forks and knives
still reflect the empty porcelain plate

The flame has closed
and the faucet no longer tracks the seconds.

The carton of eggs has already shuffled off,
each leftover shell a promise that was never kept.

Before sunrise
When the wisps of night still
swirl around the wind chimes,

The coffee will still brew
